Our first samples to Japan and Singapore
On 27 October 2026 we posted our first food sample to a buyer in Japan: a pouch of granulated coconut sugar, sent by EMS from the post office in Batam. Two days later, on 29 October, a second parcel went to a buyer in Singapore with two pouches, one of coconut sugar and one of arenga palm sugar, sent by Lion Parcel. Small parcels, but for a new exporter they are the step that counts: the buyer tastes the real product before anyone talks about containers.
This guide explains what goes into a Baskoro sample, how we ship it and what happens after it arrives, so you know what to expect before you request one.
What is inside the pouch
Each sample comes in a resealable kraft pouch with a zipper. The label on the front shows the product name, the form (granulated), the net weight, the words "Sample, not for resale" and a sample lot code. Our first coconut sugar sample lot is CCN-2610-S01. Our first arenga palm sugar sample lot is ARN-2610-S01.
The code follows one pattern: product (CCN for coconut sugar, ARN for arenga palm sugar), then year and month, then the lot number. Sample lots carry an S before the number, so they are never confused with a production lot.
What the QR code does
Every label has a QR code. Scanning it with a phone opens the lot record on baskorotrade.com. The page shows that it is a sample lot and lists the product details recorded for that lot.
Bulk orders use the same system. Every 25 kg sack carries its own label and QR code, so a buyer can trace any sack back to its lot and report a problem from the same page. A sample is the easiest way to try it before you order.
How we ship it
International express couriers such as DHL do not accept food samples from us, so we choose the service by destination. For Japan we use EMS through Pos Indonesia. For Singapore, a short trip from Batam, we used Lion Parcel. Our Japan parcel was labelled "Food sample, no commercial value" with the contents and weight, which helps it through customs at the other end.
- Request
Fill in the sample form with your company, country and the product you want to try.
- Postage
We check the shipping cost to your address and tell you the amount.
- Dispatch
Once the postage is settled, we pack the pouch and send it the same week.
- Tracking
You get the tracking number on the day the parcel leaves Batam.
The sample itself is free. We ship through postal and local courier services, not through a buyer's own courier account, which is why we settle the postage before sending.
What to check when it arrives
- Look. Check the colour and the grain against the specification below.
- Taste. Try it on its own, then the way you would use it in production.
- Use. Dissolve it in a hot drink, bake with it or mix it into a dry blend.
- Storage. Keep the pouch closed between tests. Granulated palm sugars take up moisture from the air.
For arenga palm sugar, one quick test is the drink it is best known for in Indonesia, iced milk coffee. Dissolve the sugar 1 to 1 in hot water, let it cool and stir it into cold coffee and milk. Our guide on palm sugar for coffee has starting doses.
What happens next
After you have tried the sample, tell us how you plan to use it and the volume you have in mind. We then send a quotation, usually FOB Semarang, with the packing and loading options:
- Form
- Granulated, mesh 16 to 20
- Moisture
- Max 2.0%
- Shelf life
- 24 months in sealed packaging
- Bulk packing
- 25 kg sacks
- 20 ft container
- 14 MT on pallets, or 18 MT without pallets
- Minimum order
- 5 MT
Before each shipment our team checks the goods at the warehouse, and every sack gets its QR label.
Questions buyers ask
Yes, the sugar is free. You pay the postage to your address, and we tell you the amount before anything is sent.
Yes. Tell us on the form and we pack one pouch of each in the same parcel, as we did for our buyer in Singapore.
Those couriers do not accept food samples from us. We use EMS through Pos Indonesia, or a regional courier such as Lion Parcel for nearby destinations like Singapore.
The sample lot code on the pouch tells you which lot it came from, and the quotation names the product grade it refers to.
If you import, distribute or use coconut sugar or arenga palm sugar, request a free sample and try it in your own product.
